Day of Respect for Cultural Diversity
SAN ANDRES WILL COMMEMORATE THE DAY OF RESPECT FOR CULTURAL DIVERSITY
- The day will begin very early on Monday, October 14 with a religious ceremony at the Lynval & Cove Baptist Church.
- The traditional festivities on the Hill will begin in the evening with a cultural presentation that will include typical dances, island activities such as dominoes, sack races, didactic competitions and much more.
With an agenda full of cultural events and the traditional parade led by our Governor in charge, Tonney Gene Salazar and her staff, the Departmental Government will commemorate the 'Day of Respect for Cultural Diversity,' better known in the Archipelago as 'Race Day or Columbus Day'.
The day will begin very early on Monday, October 14 with a religious ceremony at the Lynval & Cove Baptist Church, where the great diversity that exists in the territory will be exalted that, although it makes each inhabitant different, it also makes them similar in a same means that is respect. Also, during the ceremony, a call to tolerance, respect and responsibility will be made.
The traditional Hill Festivities will continue in the evening with a cultural presentation that will include typical dances, island activities such as dominoes, sack races, didactic competitions and much more.
The musical part will be fundamental in this celebration, which will feature an entertaining musical concert by known groups and island exponents. The event will feature live streaming.
October 12 (October 14 of 2019 due to calendar) is the date in the country to promote historical reflection and intercultural dialogue about the rights of communities. In all Hispanic countries, the arrival to the American continent of the expedition led by Christopher Columbus is remembered.
At present, under the name of “Day of Respect for American Cultural Diversity,” which seeks to promote from different organizations a permanent reflection on history and move towards dialogue for cultural diversity and promote Human Rights.
It seeks that within society, manifestations that help raise public awareness about the appreciation, recognition and respect of ethnic and cultural diversity as one of the greatest wealth that the nation has are promoted.
This date, like the celebration of the Colombian National Holidays, has been appropriated by the island community to make an enthusiastic display to the rhythm of the peace bands and the entire resident community of the area is invited to accompany the festivities and demonstrations in complete peace and harmony.
