Triathlon of Guatape

* A total of six gold and one bronze medal were obtained with the team. In the same way, the island sportsmen occupied positions within the 10 and 5 best of each event.

The Department of San Andres, Providence and Santa Catalina, attained an outstanding participation during the 2019Triathlon which was held this weekend in the Municipality of Guatape in Antioquia.

According to Carlos Julio Moreno, coach of the Club Deportivo Ultramar, gave thanks to the efforts made by the participants who won a total of six gold medals and one bronze with the team. In the same manner, the island athletes occupied positions within the 10 and 5 best of each discipline.

“Most of them improved their times”, said coach Moreno.    

Thanks to the support of the Departmental Government, through the Sports and Recreation Secretariat, the athletes stood out among hundreds of participants from all over Colombia and the world.

A total of 1.200 athletes competed in the Municipality of Eastern Antioquia. The novelty for this edition was an average Distance of an Ironman, with 1.9 kilometers of swimming, 90 of cycling and 21.1 of athletics.

The sporting event included swimming in the reservoir, a broken circuit in cycling and a route in athletics in flat terrains, steep and cobbled streets.

The countries that had representation were the United States, Mexico, Venezuela, Norway and Colombia, with athletes from 19 Departments.
