AWARENESS ON GOOD WASTE MANAGEMENT WITH SPRATT BIGTH ENTREPRENEURS

· During the activity, the workers of the Secretariat visited establishment by establishment, socializing with administrators and workers the correct way to dispose of disposable items.

· The stipulated schedule for cleaning the pedestrian pathway of Spratt Bight starts from 6:00 in the morning to 12:00 noon and from 4:00 in the afternoon to 12:00 midnight.

With the objective of monitoring the schedules established by the unit for the collection of solid waste, the Secretariat of Public Services and Environment carried out an awareness campaign with entrepreneurs from the hotel sector and business owners in Spratt Bight.

During the activity, the workers from the Secretariat visit establishment by establishment, socializing with managers and workers the correct way to dispose of disposable items and the importance of making the separation of such.

According to the Secretary of Public Services and Environment, Johan Mancilla Fayllace, this type of campaign is important, taking into account that complaints are constantly received at the Secretariat about the supposed misuse of waste by business owners.

"We have identified that the commercial sector is making disposal of solid waste at times not stipulated for the collection. This causes, in view of the users, bad waste management. From today until the next week, we will be conducting door-to-door the awareness campaign with business owners and withhoteliers, showing them the indicated time and the correct way to dispose of their waste," said the secretary.

Regarding the cleaning of the sector, Mancilla Fayllace stressed that the stipulated schedule starts from 6:00 in the morning to 12:00 noon and from 4:00 in the afternoon to 12:00 midnight.

"Between that range of hours, the company makes the collection on the beaches of Spratt Bight. The idea is to go door to door and explain schedules. Garbage cans that are painted silver or gray, are for pedestrians and establishments; the blue containers, which are the largest, is to make the correct disposal of their waste," added the secretary.

Finally, the secretary stressed the importance of the classification of garbage or waste in order to preserve the environment of the island.
