Local Government promotes post-consumer medication collection in San Andres and Providence

• On May 3rd and 4th, the third major post-consumer waste collection day will take place.

• There will be a collection point at the Clarence Lynd Newball Memorial Hospital and a mobile route that will travel through the downtown of the Island and the neighborhoods of Hill and San Luis.

A call is made to all citizens to participate in the Grand Day of Collection of Post-consumer Waste, bringing your expired medications for human and veterinary use, partially consumed, deteriorated and their respective packaging; likewise, pesticide packaging for agricultural use, bulbs with mercury content (savers, fluorescent tubes and high intensity discharge bulbs HID), batteries, energy stores, computers, printers, scanners, keyboards, mouse, speakers, headbands, tablets, monitors, USB, UPS and communication elements such as fixed lines, cell phones and radiotelephones. These elements should be brought to the mobile route that will travel through the downtown area, San Luis and Hill, or they should approach the collection point located at the Clarence Lynd Newball Departmental Hospital.

On May 3, the territorial entity, the Corporation for Sustainable Development, Coralina, and Punto Azul Corporation, will celebrate the second year of the cooperation agreement, in order to continue strengthening ties and continue with the efforts to dispose appropriately the post-consumption residues of medicines.

The agreement is one of the main actions of the Government to contribute to the responsible use of medicines and the correct disposal of those drugs that have fulfilled their useful cycle to the community. In the previous campaign of the event in the Archipelago of San Andres, Providence and Kethleena, 1592 kilograms of medicines in disuse were collected and 9 post-consumption points were arranged, preventing drug residues from reaching the sea, contaminating the environment and affecting people's health.

To commemorate this second year of cooperation, an event will be held at the Wallwin Peterson Bent auditorium, in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, the Military Forces, the National Police and the Post-consumer Network of Colombia.

The Punto Azul program has collected in its seven years of existence, more than 500.000 kilograms of post-consumer medications in 1.700 Blue Points distributed throughout the country.
