Abandoned Boats in the Bay of San Andres will be removed
· Through an inter-administrative agreement between the SAE, Coralina, Dimar and the Government of the Archipelago will be able to remove the boats that are abandoned in the bay of San Andres.
· Initially, more than seven boats will be removed and chatarrized that today put at risk both the navigation and the safety of the community and the tourists that visit the bay.
· Coralina and Dimar will support with the permits and technical development of the project.
With a contribution of Two Thousand Million pesos from the Departmental Government and 500 million pesos contributed by the Special Assets Company (SAE), the process will be initiated that will allow for the first time, the removal of the boats that are currently damaged and abandoned in the bay of San Andres.
"Initially, 7 vessels will be removed, which are prioritized according to the fulfillment of a ruling of popular action ordered by the Administrative Court of San Andres by means of a ruling of May 27, 2011; however, it is the opportunity to clean this area of the island, embellishing it and recovering the marine ecosystem"said the Departmental Governor, Juan Francisco Herrera Leal"
It is emphasized that this inter-administrative agreement between the Government of San Andres, Providence and Santa Catalina, and SAE, together with the General Maritime Directorate (Dimar), and Coralina, entities that will combine their technical, logistical, human and administrative capacities and efforts to develop this process safely, returning the beauty to this tourist attraction that also serves as a route of access and navigation for the vessels that arrive at the port of the islands.
The process will have a duration of 6 months in which they will dismantled, removed, transported, and / or scrapped boats that are damage or abandoned in the bay, thus guaranteeing an ecosystem without elements other than the natural ones.
As part of the process that began with the signing of the agreement, SAE will advance public tender for the hiring of the expert in charge of executing the removal process.
The Departmental Government, along with Dimar and Coralina will be guarantors of the process, seeking to recover this coastal area of the island in a sustainable manner and without affecting the daily operations that take place on it.
On the other hand, the president of the Society of Special Assets, Maria Virginia Torres de Cristancho stated that these treaties, both the agreement and the inter-administrative contract, are very important because it is the union of technical and administrative efforts to fulfill a mission that resolves issues that are of impact for the island. Also, both go hand in hand as the contract focuses on the development of operational work to remove vessels, with the help of the Dimar and Coralina, to ensure that everything is done within the environmental technical standards and compliance with all the requirements that must be taken into account to carry out this activity causing the least environmental impact
"The combined work of the national with the local and the different instances and levels of public administration is possible. If we coordinate the action and synergize the activities, we generate scale economies and we can satisfy the interests of the public," said Torres de Cristancho.
The agreement contemplates the removal of private and even institutions vessels, in addition to those that are in process or with domain extinction.
